How I stained my Custom Build Island:
I recently stained my kitchen Island and was obsessed with the results! This is something super easy to do and it really brought my overall Island vision to life.
I started off by giving the entire surface 1 coat using Minwax Pre-Stain wood conditioner with a sponge brush. I let that dry for 3-4 hours. Then I put 2 coats of the a custom formula of stain. I used Mira Wood-Pro Interior Penetrating Stain. The exact formula I used was RU-1Y, U-2, N-1.
I recommend changing sponge brushes per coat. Then I ended by using a coat of Polyurethane Finish in Satin. This last coat will protect it against grease, water and other damage. You will want to sand between each coat of Poly (I did a total of 3).
